Mainstays Outdoor Coach Light Wall Sconce, Matte Black Finish

I needed an outdoor light as the cover on my old one on my patio broke. I picked this up today because it was reasonable and looked somewhat attractive. But this thing was designed horrible. I should have taken a hint when I noticed it was already returned once. It was not broken it was just a design nightmare. One of those what the heck were they thinking situations The face plate is not even big enough to cover the electrical box it is designed to be installed on. Why would I buy a lamp only to have to build a separate face plate to cover the electrical box especially considering it would need to be made from fire resistant material to meet code?? Maybe if you were installing it on one of those metal square or plastic poles but if you are installing it in a house or anything wood you will need an electrical box and the corners of the electrical box will be exposed so water can leak in unless you have a cover on it. And if you do have a cover it will look plane tacky. Due to this stinking pandemic I did not want to return it so I was forced to put a wood plate to match the shingles behind it and line it with sheet metal for fire resistance But I will never buy another mainstays product without a LOT of research if ever. .
